Privacy window film lets you stop people seeing into your home while keeping your natural light. But not all privacy film works the same way, and the day-versus-night difference matters.
Reflective (one-way) film
Reflective privacy film works on light balance. In daylight it's brighter outside than in, so the film acts like a mirror from outside — you see out, they can't see in. It's perfect for daytime privacy in lounges and offices while keeping your view.
The night-time catch
After dark, the balance flips: with lights on inside and darkness outside, reflective film becomes far less effective and people can see in. This surprises people who expected round-the-clock privacy. If night-time privacy matters, reflective film alone isn't the answer.
Frosted film — privacy day and night
Frosted (etched-glass) film obscures the view in both directions at all times, regardless of the light. It's the right choice for bathrooms, glazed doors and any room where you need constant privacy — and it still lets plenty of light through.
Which should you choose?
Want to keep your view and only need daytime privacy? Reflective film. Need full privacy day and night, or it's a bathroom? Frosted film. We'll look at each room's aspect and use, and recommend the right film — see our privacy film and frosted film options.
